Slabovia
Slabovia.tv is a window into the created world of Slabovia, the last communist state in Europe, a world with its own institutions and peculiar brand of politics– even its own flag! A comic project, Slabovia was initially introduced with television series on Science and Philosophy hosted by two central characters, Kierky (Kierkegaard) and Nietzsche.The world of Slabovia has since been developed into a participatory online community in which users, via a central web portal, can enter its world and become members of Slabovian society. Users can explore the often difficult and thorny issues of sexuality and sexual relations in an entertaining, sensitive and non-threatening way online, supported by a 10 part television series KNTV Sex.

Project Overview
Slabovia is an innovative project which uses a mixture of oddball comic book creations, animation and live action to create the last Communist State in Europe.
Created to feel as if the material and video clips are actually being transmitted from the country, Salobovia’s tongue-in-cheek satire creates the comic overtone through which educationally slanted material is presented. Schedule of Events
The Slabovia website is constantly updated with regular news. Styled as the front page of the State Sponsored newspaper, The Potato, the site is updated every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You can also subscribe to a weekly newsletter, the e-potato – follow the link on the homepage.
The private social networking forum, SlabSpace, which is linked to the central hub, is also regularly changing with contributions from participants.
Slabovia in the Classroom
- In the classroom, there are many ways that the Slabovia project may be used:
- watch the videos on the website to structure a unit of work or access via the C4 watch again facility 4OD
- subscribe to the e-potato newsletter for news and updates
- raise awareness of key health issues such as STIs and Contraception by using the downloadable material
- encourage students to engage with some of the current debates about Sex and Relationships in the UK such as teenage pregnancies
- use the suggested activities to make difficult aspects of Sex and Relationships Education more accessible, using the downloadable peer assessment and self assessment sheets to support them

On TV
To accompany the Salobovia’s online presence, there is also a KNTV Sex television series which is accessible via Channel 4’s watch again facility. Go to 4OD using the link below and follow the simple download instructions to access this facility.
