Programme 1 Stadtporträt Leipzig

Summary This video clip shows an example of a city in former East Germany which has been changed since the wall came down in 1989. Sven's guided tour leads us round the city, from its colossal train station on to Nicolai Church in the centre, then on to the new Leipziger Messe, the site of the Leipzig trade fair, which is the largest in Europe now. Music is ever present in Leipzig, through Bach and Schumann. And so is literature, since Goethe's Faust is linked with Auerbachs Keller, a traditional restaurant, which serves a regional vegetable dish known as Leipziger Allerlei. The film ends with some special activities for young people: inline skating in Leipzig and video filming at a youth centre.
