Aims
This series of five programmes makes some unlikely connections between club and international football, the writing process and Shakespeare's Henry V. The series aims to: - uncover the range and vitality of writing that football encourages;
- use analogies from football to explore the discussion of leadership in Henry V;
- encourage reluctant readers and writers to engage with work in English;
- show how the key stage 3 framework can be addressed imaginatively in the classroom.
The first three programmes focus on writing, on football journalism, poetry and fiction, while the final two provide an entry point for the classroom study of Henry V, a key stage 3 set text. There's also a full-colour 48-page book to accompany the programme, which looks at the language of football, literary connections, stories and poems as well as containing classroom ideas and suggestions.
