Aims

The programmes raise awareness of the Liverpool dockers’ dispute (1995—98), and investigate the various instruments at a dramatist’s disposal. They aim:

  • To involve students in dramatic experience, and participation in the lives of characters.
  • To encourage students’ acquisition of useful set of concepts with which to approach discussion, reading, writing and performance of dramatic texts.
  • To promote a methodical approach to the study of drama through awareness of the mechanics of dramatic writing.
  • To develop students’ interest in the craft of writing.

‘The 500 sacked Liverpool port workers and their families encourage teachers and pupils to view the Channel 4 Television two-part documentary Writing the Wrongs and the film Dockers. The drama offers all an opportunity to examine many aspects of contemporary UK society.’
Jim Nolan, shop steward
