Introduction

French Express reports on some of the crises, culture and concerns of our neighbour over the channel. Christelle Chamberland presents a mixture of investigative stories and items which delve into French culture and psychology in this French-language version of the Channel 4 series first broadcast in summer 1998.

The 15 stories in the programmes will be of interest to A-level students and useful as an extra resource for able GCSE students. Each story includes an interview in French, with French subtitles to provide extra support. The presenter's language has been kept as clear and simple as possible.

Here are just a few of the 15 topics covered which fit well with A-level syllabuses:

  • the rise of the National Front
  • rap music in a Marseille suburb
  • the extension of the TGV network
  • the introduction of the Euro
  • strikes by French schoolteachers
  • sexual harassment at work

Many other topics, such as table football and inline skating, may well appeal to GCSE students.

French Express reveals in an interesting and lively way what's going on in France now.
