Teacher Notes
Activities: Notes for Teachers
The activities suggested for each programme are of the following
kinds:
Note making
Learning focus: Key Elements 4, 5
A note-making grid is given, including the key themes and spaces
for the students to write down what they find out.
This is probably best done at the end of the programme as a
collaborative activity. Encourage students to discuss the
information and ask you for clarification.
Alternatively, the programme notes suggest appropriate timings
for pausing the video to allow for note taking.
Making sense of the information
Learning focus: Key Elements 1, 2, 3
This activity involves the student manipulating information,
making choices, and selecting facts.
The activities are intended to promote discussion. Suggestions
are made for extended writing.
Research
This activity involves finding information from the web.
Suggestions for written tasks are offered, but it may be enough
simply to access new information and talk about it.
Life stories
Learning focus: Key Elements 4, 5
This task involves asking an adult questions relating to one of
the themes highlighted in the programme. This ongoing project could
lead to the compilation of a class book or web page.
The activity is important in helping the student develop the
ability to ask questions and identify with the recent past.
Furthermore, it helps to preserve life stories, which might
otherwise be lost. This database could provide a rich resource for
future schoolchildren and historians.
