English Language and Literature
National Curriculum requirements, Key Stage 4:

• pre-twentieth century prose;
• historical, social and cultural background of a writer.
• The programme may also be used to provide:
• Speaking and Listening opportunities to consider literature and the media;
• Reading opportunities to respond to the substance and style of nineteenth-century, major science fiction literature;
• Writing opportunities to develop pupils’ ability to draw on their experience of reading.
