Key Stage 3 Design and Technology During this key stage, pupils design and make products, working with a range of materials. They work out their ideas with a greater technical precision, taking proper account of functional, economic and aesthetic factors. Sometimes the scale of the design task makes it necessary for pupils to work in teams. They use elements of mathematics, science and art and use ICT applications, including computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacture (CAM), as an integral part of designing and making. Pupils develop their understanding of design through the study of existing products and being influenced by designers, and others from industry and commerce.
