Birth Days
Introduction
A group of people from different backgrounds, of different ages
and stages in their lives, share their experiences of pregnancy and
childbirth. They speak openly and frankly about contraception and
how they conceived and about their changing feelings and emotions
during pregnancy, and before and after the birth. Major themes are:
the importance of accessing appropriate help and advice at all
times; making informed choices; planning and communication;
promoting the physical, emotional and social health of those
involved.
The stories that unfold are presented in a naturalistic and
non-judgmental way. Although a community midwife provides
background information and we see several ways of managing birth,
the programme is not intended as a comprehensive guide to pregnancy
or birth. Teachers should familiarise themselves with the content
and with any guidelines which might apply before viewing the
programmes with pupils.
