Learning Outcomes

Pupils should be able to:

  • Record the process of throwing a pot.
  • Make a collection of pottery of different styles, tactile qualities and type of manufacture.
  • Use IT and other methods to research the different shapes, patterns, colours and decorations used in pottery in different parts of the world and across time.
  • Use IT to research Islamic architecture. How do pupils think Emily’s pottery has been influenced by Islamic architecture?
  • Select and record observations and ideas from their research, observation and imagination, using a sketchbook. Experiment with ideas for a pot, considering its purpose.
  • Design and make a coil pot. Experiment using hands and different tools.
  • Experiment by pressing objects into clay to make patterns and impressions.
  • Understand and appreciate the work of a potter such as Emily Myers.
