Martin Jones Programme Outline
| In this programme, Martin Jones paints two pictures. The first is an underwater scene for which he takes inspiration from magazine photographs. He uses acrylic paint, diluted with water to make it very runny. He begins by mixing 'watery' colours on a plate and testing out the colours and textures before trying them on the canvas. In preparation for the painting he makes sketches and uses charcoal. The important thing for Jones is the background, which he establishes with sponges and cloths before adding detail with a brush. The second picture he paints is an abstract one which is brought to life before our eyes as he adjusts the colours, shapes and figurative details. At the end of the programme we see Jones standing in front of the two finished and framed paintings. He tells us he is sometimes quite surprised at his own work! | | |
