The Changing City: London Programme Outline
The programme begins by contrasting the different faces of London some familiar, others less so and exploring the influence of landforms such as meanders on the growth of London. Then, through the eyes of people who live in Coin Street a South Bank riverside community it considers inner city land use changes and their effects on the lives of the local population. The programme examines the following geographical ideas: a) landforms associated with rivers and their channels play a role in how people use the river and its banks; b) distinctive patterns of land use develop in urban areas; c) the use of the land in urban areas changes over time; d) conflicts can arise over the use of the land in inner city areas.
