Pupils should be taught: Nutrition a. the processes of digestion, including the function of organs and the role of enzymes, stomach acid and bile salts Scotland The programme supports Standard Grade Biology. Northern Ireland Curriculum Key Stage 4 Science (Double) Living Organisms and Life Processes Living Organisms Pupils should have opportunities to: Nutrition d. understand the properties of enzymes e. extend their knowledge of the digestive system to include the action of digestive enzymes, including amylase, lipase and protease, and understand the processes of absorption and assimilation of the products of digestion. Science (Single) Living Organisms and Life Processes Living Organisms Pupils should have opportunities to: Nutrition d. be introduced to the structure and functions of the component parts of the digestive system in humans, including - identification of the parts of the human alimentary canal, in relation to ingestion, digestion and egestion. e. extend their knowledge of the digestive systems to include amylase, lipase and protease in saliva, gastric, pancreatic and intestinal juice; f. understand the processes of absorption and assimilation of the products of digestion
