Programme 19: Circuits

Answers to Activity Sheet 3

Ohm’s Law

1. a) for 1m wire: R = 4/0.8 = 5W
b) for the spool: R = 10/0.02 = 500W
c) amount of wire on spool = 500/5 = 100m

The experiment wouldn’t have worked if the wire wasn’t insulated because all the coils would short circuit. The current would take the shortest path through the metal.

2. a) V = 40V
b) V = 240V
c) I = 0.5A
d) I = 0.12A
e) R = 2000W
f) R = 45W

3. a) Vsupply = V1 + V2 + V3
b) V1 = 50V, V2 = 100V, V3 =150V
c) Vsupply = 50+100+150 = 300V
