Answers to Activity Sheet 3

Waste Not Want Not – Disposal of Plastics

This is a discussion activity based around various methods for the disposal of plastics. Pairs or groups of students should be given a copy of the worksheet and a set of comment cards that contain a variety of statements about each method. The students have to decide which statements refer to which method and then to sort them into supportive and non-supportive statements. There are no hard and fast correct answers with this activity and students should be encouraged to express opinions. The activity could be followed up in a variety of ways. The students might be asked to produce a report on which is the most favoured option, or they might be asked to write a newspaper article supporting or protesting against a particular method. Students could go on to investigate which disposal methods are used in their own area.
