Staying Cool Curriculum Relevance
The programme explores evidence of the existence of the 'greenhouse effect', and its causes (in particular the burning of fossil fuels) and consequences (in particular rising sea levels and increased flooding). It goes on to explore ways in which humans might reduce their dependence on fossil fuels through improved energy efficiency around the home and at work, and by seeking alternative, renewable sources of energy to power business, home and transport. The programme is suitable for ages 12-16, NC years 8-11, KS3/4 and Scottish levels S1/S4 The programme could be used as part of the Geography programme of study at KS3, sections 1d, 3e, 5a and 5b, and in Citizenship at KS4, section 1j. It is also appropriate for KS3 Science, Sc2 5a, and Sc4 5a, 5b and 5c.
