Programme 1: Testicular Cancer Activities
Suggestions for Using the Programme in the Classroom Before viewing Explain to pupils that they are going to see a programme about testicular cancer. Try to build up a picture of what they already know by asking the following questions: - What is testicular cancer?
- Have you heard anything in the news about it?
- Do you know what some of the concerns are about it?
- Do you know anything about the treatment for it?
- Is there anything men can do about it?
- Is there anything women can do about it?
After viewing Ask pupils to identify any gaps in their knowledge and discuss the programme. - How did they feel about what they saw?
- Why do they think men might have difficulty facing up to something like this?
- Could men and women do anything to improve the situation?
- What are the key messages pupils have taken from watching the programme?
- What concerns might people have about a screening process that involves self-examination? How could some of these concerns be addressed?
- Discuss in what ways women examining their breasts and men examining their testicles could be considered similar, and in what ways different.
