Just Good Friends

Synopsis

This first programme deals with friendships between males and females. Young people talk about these relationships, the different expectations, the immense support, the frustrations and the way in which outsiders may view these relationships. The programme encourages discussion about young people’s expectations and needs and explores how these can be articulated.

Ellie and George

Ellie and George went out a year ago and are now just friends. Ellie and George discuss their feelings for each other. Although they both say they are just friends, Ellie admits feeling jealous when George gets a new girlfriend. They also touch on the fact that others may find their relationship quite strange. For example: George comments on how some people may find it difficult to understand how he can spend so much time with one person and yet be just friends.

Owen and Naomi

Owen and Naomi have become friends after their parents’ divorce. The film follows their friendship as Naomi gets a new boyfriend and they discuss the effect this has on their relationship.

Simon and Christina

Simon and Christina have known each other since nursery school and have remained friends ever since. They discuss many things together and clearly enjoy each others company. Simon, though, can be unreliable, not turning up when he promises. Although their relationship is purely platonic, their parents do think there is something more and that in fact one day they will get married.

Preena and Jamie

This story explores how friends can act as a real support in very difficult times. When Jamie’s mother dies, someone recommends that he phone Preena. Preena’s mother died several years ago and so Jamie and Preena’s friendship develops as they support each other through their shared experience. Their friendship has developed and now they keep in touch to discuss a whole range of things.
