Aims & Learning Outcomes

The programme aims to:

• Explore number sequences through direct investigation.
• Build tables of results from investigations, and use them to predict further results.
• Provide entertaining lesson material, with opportunities for further exploration.
• Demonstrate a practical, problem-solving approach.

After watching the programme, students should:

• Recognise the value of working systematically and recording results.
• Understand that patterns and relationships found from known results allow further results to be predicted.
• Appreciate that mathematics can yield results that cannot be found practically, and can provide a simpler and more direct approach to the solution of some problems.
• See that tables can be effectively used to find relationships and solve problems.
• Be aware that the processes Lisa demonstrates can be applied to a range of problems (including the Guard’s).
