Henning: (reading from sign) Gesucht: Tierstimmen-Imitator.
Wanted Animal Actor with Good Voice.

Henning tries out various animal sounds.

Henning: Der Hahn.
The cockrel.

He makes crowing noises.

Henning: Der Hund.
The dog.

The children run up to Henning’s railway carriage. They’ve heard the noise.

Svenja opens the door.

Svenja: Was ist los?
What’s up?

Deike: Was ist das für ein Lärm?
What’s that awful noise?

There's a loud barking sound.

Who’s making that noise?

Henning: Der Esel, der Esel.
The donkey, the donkey.

He makes donkey noises.

Roman: Was ist dieser schrecklicher Lärm?
What is that awful noise?

Thayalleni: Ist Henning da drin?
Is Henning in there?

Vanessa: Weibnicht.
I don’t know.

Lukas: Ist Henning okay?
Is Henning alright?

Henning: Die Katze.
The cat.

Henning makes mewing noises.

Yannick: Was machen wir?
What shall we do?

Frauke: Lass uns reingehen.
Let’s go inside.

They go inside to Henning.

Henning: Ich habe heute keine Zeit. Geht nach Hause.
I have no time today. Go home.

Children: Und der Lärm?
What about all that noise?

Henning (shyly - he doesn’t want to let on to the children what he was doing.) Lärm?
Noise?

Henning and the children are now playing a game - guessing the animal from sounds.

Thayalleni stands in the centre of a circle and goes ‘Sssssssss!’

Svenja: Raupe?
Caterpillar?

Henning shakes his head.

Lukas: Tiger?
Tiger?

Deike: Schlange?
Snake?

The children clap.

Deike makes horse noises.

Frauke: Esel?
Donkey?

Svenja: Zebra?
Zebra?

Roman: Pferd?
Horse?

Henning: Ja. Das ist richtig.
Yes. That’s right.

Roman makes lion sounds.

Yannick: Katze?
Cat?

Frauke: Vogel?
Bird?

Henning: Das ist nicht richtig.
That’s not right.

Frauke: Löwe?
Lion?

Roman: Richtig.

Yannick imitates a monkey.

Roman: Hai?
A shark?

Frauke: Nilpferd?

Vanessa: Affe?

Henning: Stimmt.
Correct.

Lukas makes elephant noises.

Look for the animal!

Each of the children talks about their pet or favourite animal.

Deike: Ich heibe Deike. Ich habe viele Haustiere. Das ist mein Hund. Er heibt Ziera.
My name is Deike. I have lots of pets. This is my dog. His name is Ziera.

Frauke: Ich heibe Frauke. Das ist mein Haustier. Das ist ein Kaninchen. Es heibt Oli.
My name is Frauke. This is my pet. It’s a rabbit. His name is Oli.

Svenja: Ich heibe Svenja. Ich finde Meerschweinchen sind coole Haustiere. Ich habe drei: Toby, Kuddel und Fifi.
My name is Svenja. I think guinea pigs are cool pets.I have three: Toby, Kuddel and Fifi.

Thayalleini: Ich habe keine Haustiere, aber ich habe viele Stofftiere.
I don’t have any pets, but I have a lot of soft toys.

Henning and the children congo round the railway carriage singing a song.

Henning: Halt! Das ist jetzt genug. Wir spielen jetzt nicht mehr Tiere. Ich gebe euch eine Aufgabe.
That's enough now! Stop it now. No more playing animals. I'll set you a task.

Henning: Sucht ein Tier! Das Tier hat 4 Köpfe. Das Tier hat 8 Augen! Es hat 14 Beine. Das Tier macht einen schrecklichen Lärm!
Find an animal. The animal has four heads, the animal has eight eyes! It has 14 legs.The animal makes a terrifying noise!

Thayalleni: Vier Köpfe?

Frauke: Vierzehn Beine?
Fourteen legs?

Vanessa: Acht Augen?
Eight eyes?

Yannick: Haha! Wirklich!

Deike: Der spinnt.
He’s mad.

Roman: Das ist ein Witz!

Svenja: Das kann nicht sein.

Lukas: Das gibt es nicht .
There’s no such thing.

Henning: Sucht dieses Tier! Das ist eure Aufgabe für heute.

Frauke: Hier gibt es Tiere. Hier sind Schweine.
There are animals here. There are pigs here.

Frauke: Entschuldigen Sie bitte, wir suchen ein Tier.
Excuse me please, we’re looking for an animal.

Lukas: Es hat vierzehn Beine.
It's got fourteen legs.

Farmer: Vierzehn Beine? Unsere Tiere haben vier Beine oder zwei.
Fourteen legs? Our animals have four legs, or two.

Lukas: Es hat acht Augen und vier Köpfe.
It’s got eight eyes and four heads.

Farmer: Vier Köpfe? Unsere Tiere haben einen Kopf. Schaut euch um.

Frauke: Da sind die Pferde.
There are the horses.

Frauke: Hier sind die Hühner.
Here are the hens.

Lukas: Und eine Ente.
And a duck.

Lukas: Da sind die Kühe.

There are the sheep.

Frauke: Eins, zwei, drei... nur vier Beine.

The children go back to the farmer.

Frauke: Hier ist das Tier nicht.
The animal isn’t here.

Farmer: Tut mir Leid. Ich kann euch nicht helfen.
Sorry, I can’t help.

Vanessa: Eine Tierhandlung! Wir gehen zu einer Tierhandlung.
A pet shop! Let's go to a pet shop.

Yannick: Ja, eine Tierhandlung, dort gibt es viele Tiere.
Yes, a pet shop, there are lots of animals there.

Yannick: Hier sind Fische.
Here are fish.

Vanessa: Die Fische schwimmen, die haben keine Beine.
Fish swim, they don’t have any legs.

Vanessa: Ich habe ein Meerschweinchen.
I’ve got a guinea pig.

Yannick: Ich auch.
Me too.

Vanessa: Das sind Vögel. Die haben Flügel.
These are birds. They have wings.

Yannick: Die singen. Das ist kein schrecklicher Lärm. Das ist schön.

Sales assisant: Wir haben Haustiere, aber ein Tier was schrecklichen Lärm macht... das tut mir Leid. Da kann ich euch nicht helfen.

Roman: Ich glaube, die sind müde.
I think they’re tired.

Roman: (to the zookeeper) Entschuldigung, wir suchen ein großes Tier.
Excuse me, can you help us? We’re looking for a big animal.

Svenja: Es hat vier Köpfe.
It has four heads.

Roman: Es hat acht Augen.
It has eight eyes.

Svenja: Es hat vierzehn Beine.
It has fourteen legs.

Roman: Und es macht schrecklichen Lärm.
And it makes a terrible noise.

Zookeeper: Wir haben sehr viele Tiere hier, die machen auch viel Lärm... Aber vierzehn Beine? Acht Augen und vier Köpfe? Tut mir Leid. Ich kann euch nicht helfen.

All the children walk through the city. We see the statue of the Bremer Stadtmusikanten.

Roman: Schaut! Schaut, die Tiere!

Frauke: Eins, zwei, drei, vier Köpfe.
One, two, three, four heads.

Lukas: Zwei, vier, sechs, acht Augen.
Two, four, six, eight eyes.

Yannick: Eins, zwei, drei, vier, fünf, sechs, sieben, acht, neun, zehn, elf, zwölf, dreizehn, vierzehn Beine.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen legs.

Roman: Das sind die Bremer Stadtmusikanten.
That’s the Bremen town musicians.

Svenja: Das ist der Esel.
That’s the donkey.

Vanessa: Das ist der Hund.
That’s the dog.

Lukas: Das ist die Katze.
That’s the cat.

Frauke: Das ist der Hahn.
That’s the cock.

Henning appears in a puff of smoke next to the children, making animal noises.

Yannick: So ein schrecklicher Lärm!
Such a terrible noise!

Henning: Also! Ihr habt das Tier gefunden!

Henning is centre stage.

Henning: Meine Damen und Herren! Verehrtes Publikum! Liebe Kinder!
Ladies and gentlemen! Most honoured audience! Dear children!

Sie sehen jetzt die berühmte Geschichte der Bremer Stadtmusikanten!
You are now going to see the famous story of the Bremen town musicians!

We see the street theatre performance.The children are in the audience. Henning gives a VO commentary.

Henning: Das sind die Tiere. Der Esel, der Hund, die Katze, der Hahn.
There are the animals. The donkey, the dog, the cat, the cock.

Sie gehen nach Bremen. Sie haben Hunger. Sie finden ein Bauernhaus.
They are going to Bremen. They are hungry. They find a farmhouse.

Im Haus sind Räuber. Die Räuber haben viel Essen.
Robbers are in the house. The robbers have plenty to eat.

Die Tiere machen schrecklichen Lärm. Die Räuber haben Angst.
The animals make a horrible noise. The robbers are frightened.

Sie rennen weg.
They run away.

Die Tiere essen. Sie sind froh.
The animals eat. They are happy.

Und wenn sie nicht gestorben sind, dann leben sie noch heute.
And they lived happily ever after.

(Literally: If they have not died, they are still alive today. This is the traditional ending of fairy tales.)
