Programme 5: Stage and Screen

Introduction

The programme features music which performs certain functions and involves quite different skills to writing a pop song or a concert piece:

1. 'Mediaeval March' by Debbie Wiseman is the opening music composed for a film about Hans Christian Andersen and sets the mood for the film.

2. 'Heart of the Wood' by the composer Howard Goodall and lyricist Charles Hart is a song from a musical entitled ‘The Dreaming’ based on Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’. It provides a vehicle for the drama and projects the feelings and moods of the characters.
