• gravity affects all phenomena on the Earth and throughout the Universe
• the nature of gravity makes it difficult to measure the precise value of the gravitational constant, G
• gravity has a profound influence on human shape and movement
• new cosmological observations can lead to changes in scientific ideas about the forces acting in the Universe
