Aims

  • To introduce the planets Uranus and Neptune, and describe their orbits around the Sun, their axial tilts (very unusual in the case of Uranus), their sizes and their days.
  • To describe the events leading to the discovery of the rings of Uranus, and to the discovery of the planet Neptune.
  • To describe the atmospheres, cloud layers, weather, internal structure and magnetic fields of both planets.
  • To describe the ring systems and major moons of Uranus and Neptune.
  • To explain how the Voyager 2 spacecraft and the Hubble Space Telescope have revealed new information about Uranus and Neptune.
