Aims

  • To introduce the planet Saturn and describe its orbit around the Sun, its day, its size and its low density relative to the other gas giants.
  • To describe its atmosphere, cloud belts, weather, internal structure and magnetic field.
  • To describe the composition, appearance and size of Saturn's rings, present hypotheses of their origin, and show how the Voyager missions increased our knowledge of them.
  • To examine the diversity of Saturn's 18 known moons.
  • To introduce the ongoing Cassini mission to Saturn, and its planned investigations of Titan as a possible incubator for life.
