Aims

  • To introduce the planet Jupiter and describe its orbit around the Sun, length of day, size, and powerful gravitational pull.
  • To describe its atmosphere, cloud belts, weather, internal structure and magnetic field.
  • To describe the role of space missions which have investigated Jupiter - Voyager 1 and 2, the Galileo Probe, and Orbiter - and their discoveries.
  • To present Jupiter's 16 moons, focusing on the varying characteristics of the four large satellites, which constitute a 'mini Solar System'.
