Blue Planet

Aims

  • To introduce Earth as a special planet, a 'blue planet', with oceans of liquid water, a breathable atmosphere, and life.
  • To reveal Earth's internal structure, and the plates that make up the crust and are responsible for continental drift.
  • To explain Earth's transformation from a lifeless world to one with an atmosphere suitable for life.
  • To explain day and night, and how the tilt of Earth's axis causes the seasons and the varying hours of daylight.
  • To demonstate how the Sun drives the Earth's winds, the importance of ocean currents, and how climatic events such as El Niño have consequences across the globe.
