The Ulster Crisis

Aims

  • To show that political attitudes sown earlier in the century, for and against the Union, hardened from the first Home Rule crisis in 1886 onwards.
  • To trace the shift from democratic politics to the use of physical force in the period from 1912 to 1914.
  • To show that the outbreak of war in 1914 made future solutions to the Irish problem even more uncertain.
