Cells Aims & Learning Outcomes
Pupils should gain an understanding of: - How animals and plants are made up of cells;
- The function of the cell membrane, cytoplastm and nucleus in plant and animal cells;
- The function of chloroplasts and cell walls in plant cells;
- The ways in which some cells including cilated epithelial cells, sperm, ova, palisade cells and root hair cells, are adapted to their functions.
- The fact that all living things are made up of cells;
- How cells can grow and multiply if they have oxygen, water and nutrients;
- How a microscope lets us see that most cells have a nucleus, cytoplasm, and a cell membrane;
- There are different types of cell designed to do different jobs;
- Plants have a cell wall made of tough fibres, and chloroplasts to make sugars.
