Limestone Aims
Pupils should gain an understanding of: - The benefits and drawbacks of scientific and technological developments in environmental and other contexts;
- Limestone as a very plentiful resource and the fact that it will not run out for a very long time;
- How limestone can be broken down into other useful chemicals by heating (thermal decomposition);
- The physical properties of limestone which make it useful as a building material and for sculpture;
- Limestone being porous and this results in spectacular scenery in limestone areas;
- Limestone and its products being useful in treating the effects of acid in the air and the soil;
- Limestone as a sedimentary rock.
