Electricity

Aims

Pupils should gain an understanding of:

  • How to measure current in series and parallel circuits;
  • Current in a series circuit depending on the number of cells and the number and nature of other components;
  • Current ‘not being used up’ by components in circuits;
  • Current is a flow of charge;
  • Current is a body of moving charged particles;
  • The fact that an electric current can carry energy;
  • Your body can complete an electric circuit;
  • The idea that if you put two lamps in a series circuit the current is shared between them;
  • Parallel circuits allow you to get enough electric current to supply several lamps from one battery.
