Programme Outline
Although Rodin’s The Kiss appears to be realistic,
the evidence of the way in which it was made – the chisel
marks in the stone – show that it is an interpretation of
reality rather than being ‘real’. Boccioni and Picasso
both use distortion to create expressive rather than realistic
effects, conveying different ideas of energy, mood and
movement.
