Aims
As a result of watching the programmes, students
will:
- know about and understand the contribution of women to the
First and Second World Wars;
- describe and explain attitudes towards the role of women and to
identify change and continuity in these attitudes between the First
and Second World Wars;
- understand the range of ways in which women in the past have
been represented and interpreted;
- appreciate how propaganda and patriotism influenced
representations and interpretations of the role of women during the
First and Second World Wars;
- use films about women and war critically in their historical
context;
- appreciate the diversity of women's experiences during the
First and Second World Wars, including the international
dimension;
- understand the significance of the role of individual women in
the twentieth century.
