ACTIVITIES

Guidance

This programme is best used alongside programme 4, so as to cover the Second World War in its entirety. However, students will need a basic knowledge of the key events of the Second World War before watching either programme.

General activities

Alongside the programme students could:

• Find out more about 'The Rape of Nanjing'
• Find a map of eastern Europe and plot places mentioned in this programme on it, especially in modern-day Poland and Germany
• Google 'Operation Barberosa' to find out more
• Produce a timeline of key events in the Second World War.

Programme-related activities

• This material can be adapted to suit the particular age and ability of the students
• The following tasks can be undertaken individually or in pairs
• Usually one copy of each worksheet is needed per student
• Encourage whole-class discussion and feedback after each activity.
