0.00 – 01.10
General introduction to the series.
01.11 – 03.30
We meet Chetan and find out about his two main career interests – car design and medicine. He explains that medicine is in his family (his father and sister are doctors) but that he has always loved cars.
03.31 – 4.59
Chetan meets careers specialist Ann Duffy to discuss what he knows and likes about car design. Chetan is taking all science A-Levels and Ann is interested in the fact that he has not chosen any art and design subjects.
05.00 – 10.19
Chetan is given his first challenge, which is to design a car for Jaguar. He spends time with two of the car designers at Jaguar to find out about the job and how competitive it is. He is given feedback on his designs, which although encouraging suggest that his drawing skills are not quite good enough.
10.20 – 11.25
Chetan meets David and Ann to discuss why he is interested in medicine.
11.25 – 16.59
Chetan is set his second challenge, which is to spend some time at a hospice for people who are terminally ill. He talks to Ann about the starting salary, prospects, entry requirements and the need for good interpersonal skills. She is surprised that he has not had any work experience in a medical setting as all medical schools will expect this from applicants. The experience in the hospice opens his eyes to the realities of medicine and the emotional aspect of the job.
17.00 – 17.38
David and Anne discuss the two challenges that Chetan has taken and they decide to look at the car industry in more detail.
17.39 – 19.41
For his third challenge, Chetan visits Jaguar again but this time spends time talking to a studio engineer. He finds out that for this job people need to be good at maths and science and have an interest in art and design. He also finds that there are plenty of opportunities for employment.
19.42 – 21.03
David takes Chetan to Loughborough University to find out about the engineering course there.
21.04 – 22.19
Chetan meets a course tutor at Loughborough University to find out more about salaries and job prospects.
22.20 – 22.34
A summary of all the options that Chetan has been considering.
22.35 – 23.48
Three months later and Chetan has made a decision about his future career path.
