PROGRAMME 5: KIRSTIE

Kirstie is a 17-year-old student from Leicester following a multi-media National Diploma course. However, she has really lost her way and has very little motivation to apply herself to college. In fact, she has failed her first year of the course and has had to start it again. She enjoys the graphic-design and photography aspects of her course best.

Kirstie enjoys life. She is in a band and has lots of friends, but she is totally clueless about what to do in her future career. She has two big problems: deciding what to do next and getting motivated to do anything!

A life coach and a careers specialist help Kirstie to increase her confidence and find the motivation she needs to start thinking about her career.

PROGRAMME AIMS

• To illustrate how to start thinking about career options
• To highlight the importance of talking to people who are actually working in the job or on the course that a student is interested in
• To help students understand the difference between getting a job and having a real vocation they feel passionate about
• To stress the role of individual careers guidance
• To illustrate the importance of finding out the day-to-day reality of different jobs
• To look at the pros and cons of university.
