PROGRAMME 1: DANIELLE

Danielle describes herself as a 'real Essex girl' and loves enjoying herself, shopping and socialising. She is 17 and doing her A-levels, but struggling with her lessons. She is losing interest and becoming demotivated because she feels she is failing. Danielle is lacking in confidence and doesn't feel that she has any skills to offer. She is scared of trying too hard in case she fails.

With a very creative side, Danielle is considering a career in interior design, but also has thought of joining the police force – two very different career ideas. She is an excellent communicator and would like a career that involves working closely with people.

Danielle spends time with a life coach and a careers specialist who help to improve her confidence and motivation through a series of work-related experiences.

PROGRAMME AIMS

• To illustrate how to make a decision between two options
• To highlight the importance of talking to people who are actually working in the job or on the course that the student is interested in
• To help students understand the difference between getting a job and having a real vocation they feel passionate about
• To give students some careers information about two jobs
• To stress the role of individual careers guidance.
