TRICKY BUSINESS 2

PROGRAMME 8: RENTAHEDGE

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

00:00 – 06:08

Introduces mentor John Boyle and university student and business owner Gareth Harca. Reveals that Gareth's start-up business, RentaHedge, is set up and ready to go but has no customers.

06:09 – 09:54

John confirms that Gareth has a unique business idea and that he urgently needs clientele if his seasonal business is to take off. He advises Gareth to identify potential customers and concentrate on selling to them.

09:55 – 13:20

Gareth follows John's advice and gets a booking. He discovers the impact of adverse weather conditions on his operation and learns valuable lessons for the future.

13:21 – 16:01

John arranges for Gareth to visit a public relations agency that specialises in niche marketing. Impressed by their ideas, Gareth takes time to decide if their services represent value for money.

16:02 – 20:12

A potential deal to rent hedges for the Epsom Derby distracts Gareth from his marketing activities. He learns the hard way that negotiation is a two-way process and that there is a big difference between a speculative and a definite booking.

20.13 – 23:24

Progress review. Gareth has followed John's advice and learnt from his mistakes. The business is doing well and is growing month on month.
