The Thin Club
In Britain at least 1.1 million people are diagnosed as anorexic and the figure is rising.

If you would like advice and information about anorexia, please go to the Links page.

Sabrina, Feodora and Lilly are three very different young women with the same insatiable desire to starve themselves.

Once isolated from society by their anorexia, through websites they have found others like them who share their passion for being thin. Online a virtual army of anorexics is flying the flag for 'pro-anorexia'. Thousands of 'pro-ana' communities are starting every day, dedicated to swapping tips, hints and support for living an 'anorexic lifestyle'.

Anorexics are terrified of being forced into recovery so they go to great lengths to hide their eating disorder from their family and friends. 10% die prematurely having failed to recover from treatment.

Anorexia is a very secret disease, where the sufferers retreat away from society as they get worse. This is where pro-anorexic sites fill a need. They offer a non-judgemental forum for behaviour that regular society finds very hard to understand.

The Thin Club follows the girls, online and off, and their relationship with pro-ana. It looks into the heart of a phenomenon where having the freedom to be eating disordered is considered a basic human right.

Produced by Special Edition Films for Channel 4.
