TEEN TABOOS
PROGRAMME 2: SEX, TEENS AND INFECTIONS
OUTLINE
00:00 – 05:40
Six teenagers agree to visit a genito-urinary clinic to be tested for sexually transmitted infections. First up are Dan and Urdon. Urdon finds the experience is not as bad as he had expected.
05:41 – 10:58
Their swabs are checked for obvious signs of infection and something suspicious is found on Dan's… Elaine tells of the consequences for her of an untreated STI – she developed pelvic inflammatory disease and cannot now have children.
10:59 – 14:40
Luke and Jodie have been going out for a year. After having worried for some time about Luke's past, Jodie persuades him to get tested, and goes along to get herself checked out too.
14:41 – 20:18
Jayne and Martin are first-years at university. They visit the clinic together for moral support. We find out about the risks involved in different types of sexual activity, and find that rising numbers of young people are being diagnosed with HIV.
20:18 – 23:00
Sarah is HIV positive and tells how she simply didn't think about sexually transmitted infections at the age of 17. She talks about the effect on her life of living with the virus.
23:01 – 24:50
A week is up and all the test results are back. The teens agree they would rather know and be treated than risk complications or passing infections on. So how has the whole experience been and, more importantly, what have they learned?
