Before viewing

Split the class into two groups of jury members and discuss the following issues, making note of the general views amongst the group:

  2. Discuss your own experiences of smoking cannabis or taking drugs.
  3. What was the outcome of this drug use, were you found out?
  4. Discuss why you think teenagers take drugs.
  5. Discuss whether you can justify smoking cannabis (for example for medical reasons).
  6. Discuss how you deal with someone who is binge drinking – should you consider punitive or educational measures?
  7. Discuss how cannabis use should be punished.
  8. Discuss the best way to stop people taking drugs.

After viewing

As one group compare the views of the two juries before the show and then consider how your views may have been changed by Rachel's case.

  1. Discuss why you think Ben smokes cannabis.
  2. Discuss what course of action should be taken to encourage him to stop smoking cannabis.
  3. Discuss whether Ben bows to peer pressure from his friends to smoke cannabis.
  4. Should Ben worry more about getting arrested and imprisoned for the possession of cannabis?
  5. Do you think the defence case was strong, would you have defended him differently?
  6. Do you think the prosecution case was strong, would you have prosecuted him differently?
  7. Discuss how you think the Ben's cannabis use will affect his prospects and future.
  8. Discuss whether you think your school deals with drugs well.
  9. Has watching Ben changed your views on smoking cannabis?
