Teens on Trial

Aims

The programme aims to give teenagers the opportunity to:

  • Discuss whether teenagers view graffiti as art or criminal damage
  • Explore the effects of graffiti on the defendant
  • Have the responsibility to decide on an appropriate punishment for graffiti or whether it should be viewed as an offence at all
  • Gain an insight into the how legal system views graffiti art as criminal damage

Learning outcomes

  • The case will illustrate how graffiti art, which is often viewed as harmless, can easily place the teenage tagger in dangerous situations
  • The legal consequences of tagging
  • An understanding of how and why teenagers can get sucked into graffiti art as it can be glamourised
