1. What image comes into your mind when you hear each of the following words:
garage
hoodie
tracksuit
beefing up
balaclava
bandana
2. How important is your image to you?
3. Do you think that others judge you according to what you wear, what music you listen to or who you hang around with? What might people who meet you for the first time say about you?
4. What do you consider to be antisocial behaviour: a) from young people; b) from older people
During / after viewing
Discuss the following questions in groups
1. Listen to what the members of the public say about groups of young people like Benji and his friends:
"They look scary with their hoods."
"They don't seem to be scared by the police."
"You can't be sure they're not going to cause trouble."
"I feel intimidated."
"People think they're up to no good because of the way they look."
"Even though they intimidate me I try not to let it bother me."
"The parents aren't particularly good at bringing them up."
"There's a lot of unfocused energy."
Do you think that any of the statements are true about Benji's group of friends?
2. What do the people questioned in the programme list as antisocial behaviour?
3. Is antisocial behaviour a new phenomenon?
4. Would you consider anything that can be seen of Benji's behaviour as antisocial?
5. How does the general public see young people like Benji and his friends?
6. List some ways that kids can keep off the streets and out of trouble.
7. Why do you think it's important to be aware of other cultures and lifestyles?
8. If you know something about the garage scene, do you think it's more positive than the media makes out? What can be done to stop the violence erupting in clubs?
9. Listen again to the club promoter who agrees to host Ill Cartel's launch party near the end of the programme. Do you agree with what he says? Do you think there is likely to be trouble at the club?
10. What is the overall message of this programme? Do you think it persuaded you to think again about making judgements about others without hearing what they have to say?
