New Boy
Kate Marlow and the boys
In the UK today an alarming number of 13 and 14-year-old boys are underachieving.

They suffer from low self esteem, or are so aggressive and abusive that they go off the rails and fail at school.

New Boy takes an in-depth look at these growing behaviour traits amongst the UK's young male adolescents by following the lives of four typical teenage boys: Aaron, Shabih, Levi and Thomas.

All four boys are uncomfortable in their own skins and ill at ease with the world. They spend their summer holiday with life coach Kate Marlow, who attempts to turn their lives around and prepare them for their big return to school in September.

This is a summer holiday with a difference as Kate spends the weeks teaching the boys how to relate to work, relationships and most importantly themselves.

Kate lays down the ground rules, which include no mobile phone, no TV and no smoking. Before long the boys show their ingrained character traits.

Can Kate help these boys achieve their full potential? At the end of their summer and back at school their teachers and school friends give their verdicts. Have the lads changed over one summer? Are they still annoying, aggressive, rebellious or negative or have they become new boys?

About Kate Marlow

Kate started her career as an actress and theatre director. Her work includes directing Carla Lane's first ever stage play in Liverpool and at the Edinburgh Festival.

Today Kate is an acting coach at the Science of Acting School in North London. She takes a different approach to conventional drama school training. This was highlighted in the acclaimed Channel 4 show MTA - MODEL TURNED ACTOR.

Kate then had her own show for Channel 4 REALITY CHECK, which received critical acclaim, including Heat Magazine's 5 star choice for each individual episode.

She writes for Glamour Magazine and is just starting a show for Channel 4 which she co-created.
