MAKE ME A GROWN UP
PROGRAMME 2: TOM
PROGRAMME OUTLINE
00:00 – 05:30
Introduces Tom and the mentors. Summarises Tom's problems. Tom misbehaves whilst washing up in a restaurant kitchen.
05:31 – 09:14
First psychological exercise. Tom collects signatures for a petition supporting a new teenage hang-out zone. He negotiates with passers-by and changes his body language to conceal his real feelings.
09:15 – 09:54
Homework. Tom's mother sets him three tasks – doing his homework every night, cleaning his room and cooking one family meal a week.
09:55 – 12:39
Makeover. A smart work outfit replaces the skater-boy clothes.
12:40 – 15:15
Second psychological exercise. Tom has not done his homework and his mother is upset. Stephen uses role reversal to help Tom reflect on, and understand, how his behaviour affects other people.
15:16 – 22:22
Final challenge. Tom spends a day as an office junior at an advertising agency. He pitches ideas for an advertising campaign to three senior staff. He demonstrates that he can communicate, do menial tasks, work under pressure and take criticism without being stroppy or insulting.
22.53 – 23:24
Reflection. Tom has grown up and left the antagonistic troublemaker behind. He is confident that his new image will serve him better in the future. He has a part-time job in a restaurant.
