PROGRAMME 4: THE RULES OF ATTRACTION
ACTIVITIES
Guidance
Teachers should refer to the general Guidance and undertake a group agreement before viewing the programmes and undertaking the activities.
Discussion questions
- What sorts of things do people find attractive in others?
- How does friendship figure in a relationship? Do any of the qualities that help a friendship work also support a healthy 'love' relationship? If so, what are they?
- What are the differences between liking, fancying and loving someone?
- What behaviours do you associate with fancying someone? Does this differ when you are 'in love'? How do you know if you are in love, infatuated, or experiencing a 'crush'?
- What mistakes did the sex spies make in trying to find a partner? What did they do well?
Activity ideas
- List all the things people look for in a friend. Think of physical, emotional and intellectual traits. Then tick all the ones people find attractive in a potential partner. Is there a lot of overlap? Is it important to become friends with someone before you are attracted to them?
- It's often argued that the most important relationship is the one you have with yourself. What do students think are their most attractive qualities? These could be recorded around a simple self-portrait.
- Record the pros and cons of being a) attracted to someone or b) in a relationship.
- Create a 'Top 10 Tips' card for getting over someone.
Straight talking advice and real life stories on the subjects that matter to teenagers, including sex and relationships.
