KNTV SEX
PROGRAMME 10: RELATIONSHIPS
ACTIVITIES
Guidance
Teachers should refer to the general Guidance and undertake a group agreement before viewing the programmes and undertaking the activities.
Discussion
- What makes a healthy relationship?
- Is any relationship preferable to being single?
- What are some of the reasons relationships end?
- How do you know when a relationship is ready for sex? (Remember the age of consent.)
- Is sex with someone you have no relationship with a good idea? Why?
- What is love?
Activity ideas
- Use a spider diagram to brainstorm all the skills required to make a relationship work well.
- Work in two large groups to debate the positive aspects of being single versus the advantages of being in a relationship.
- Practise negotiation skills. Ask students to think of some pressure situations in a relationship, and the kind of things they might say to avoid them. Then work in pairs, with one person trying to persuade the other to do something they don't want to, and the partner practising saying no assertively and decisively.
- What are the emotional consequences of a relationship ending? And how do you begin to feel better? How might you support a friend who has been dumped, or who wants to end a relationship but doesn't know how? Devise a flyer with some practical tips: 'It's all over – what now?'
- If your school has website space for students, they could add some messages about sexual health and relationships learned from the programme.
Straight talking advice and real life stories on the subjects that matter to teenagers, including sex and relationships.
