KNTV SEX
PROGRAMME 1: THE MALE BODY
ACTIVITIES
Guidance
Teachers should refer to the general Guidance and undertake a group agreement before viewing the programmes and undertaking the activities.
Discussion questions
- Why do you think it is sometimes difficult for boys and young men to talk about their bodies?
- The programmes highlight differences between males and females – but what are the similarities – physically and emotionally?
- Where would you go to seek help if you found something wrong with your penis? (This is relevant to girls too – it may be their boyfriend!)
Activity ideas
- Work in groups to list all the words that are used for male genitalia. This is a good way to get any embarrassment out of the way early! Afterwards decide on the most appropriate terminology for use in class. You could do the same for female genitalia.
- Look at the way men's bodies are portrayed in the media – use images in magazines and adverts to come up with the 'perfect male' collage, then discuss how unrealistic this is.
- Investigate how the male body has been represented in art through the ages – you could borrow some posters from the Art department as a basis for discussion. Do the images differ from those seen in modern-day media? If so, how?
- Look into local sexual health services. Where are they, what do they offer, and when are they open? Where else can you go for help?
Straight talking advice and real life stories on the subjects that matter to teenagers, including sex and relationships.
