Activities

Before viewing

In a group or class, brainstorm the following and record responses on a board or on paper. Ask students what they associate with:

  1. being rich and famous
  2. being a midwife

Briefly discuss what students personally think it would be like. Record their responses.

You may wish to have groups of students focus on the following:

  • the pressure of becoming successful
  • dealing with the many forms of depression
  • going back to school to study

After viewing

Key questions

Has the film made students:

  • more aware of something?
  • think more deeply about some issue?
  • think more deeply about what they want or don't want to do with their life?
  • change their opinion about the profession in any way?

Discuss and compare with their original brainstorm.

Activity (Class or Group)

Have students list a profession they would return to university to study for if a first career did not work out as expected. Explore the student's choices and compare with the reasons and motivations for their first-choice vocation.
