Before viewing

In a group or class, brainstorm the following and record responses on a board or on paper. Ask students what they associate with:

  1. prison guards
  2. single mothers

Briefly discuss what students personally think it would be like. Record their responses.

You may wish to have groups of students focus on the following:

  • exploring hidden talents
  • exploiting the internet and other resources to learn about opportunities
  • ways of dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression

After viewing

Key questions

Has the film made students:

  • more aware of something?
  • think more deeply about some issue?
  • think more deeply about what they want or don't want to do with their life?
  • change their opinion about the profession in any way?

Discuss and compare with their original brainstorm.

Activity (Class or Group)

Have students write skits together based on personal experiences then perform them in groups.

Have students make lists of hidden talents or abilities they feel they have.
