DON'T MAKE ME ANGRY 1
PROGRAMME 4: JENNY
ACTIVITIES
To view 4Learning video clips you will need Windows XP/2000 and Windows Media Player 9, 10 or 11. Unfortunately, the clips are not supported on Macintosh computers.
The video clips may contain a few seconds of extra material at the beginning and end. We have therefore included opening and closing descriptions to help identify the intended scene.
Rachel tries to understand Jenny's anger
Clip 1: 04:33
– 05:19
- In: (Rachel) 'So where were you on work placement then?'
- Out: 'You can sometimes start feeling angry.'
Listen to Rachel's reasons for getting angry:
- Being frightened of a situation
- To protect yourself
- Feeling frustrated
- Unfairness
- When someone embarrasses or humiliates you in public.
Think of times when you have experienced any of these situations. How did you react to them? What advice would you give to someone who reacted angrily to the above situations? Why do you think Jenny reacts in the way she does?

dynamic
Clip 2: 11:22
– 12:12
- In: (Rachel) 'And this is quite a normal thing that happens…'
- Out: 'You might end up upsetting the other person because you are not being honest with them.'
In this scene we learn how Jenny's family behaves on a regular basis: talking behind backs and, when confronted, not telling the truth, just acting as though nothing has happened. Do you think it's best to be honest with people? Think of one or two situations in which you dealt with a difficulty in the way Jenny's family does.

Jenny and her father read their letters
Clip 3: 16:09
– 18:09
- In: (Father, reading the letter) ' Fair enough.'
- Out: (Rachel) 'Dad's reaction to that was pretty positive.'
Give examples of some of the following situations arising in your family:
- Using anger to get attention
- Winding other family members up
- Using emotional blackmail
- Being given a present and not seeming happy with it.
How could this behaviour have been different?
If you could write a letter to a family member, who would you write to and what would you write?
